Whether it concerns attack, anchoring of the defense or appearing at crucial moments, these athletes delivered exceptional versions and turned out to be the elite of the state.
Here is a look at the Lacrosse Players of the Year in 2025 Deseret News.
6a player of the year
Rhett King, Corner Canyon, Jr., goalkeeper
Hardly thanks to the game of junior goalkeeper Rhett King in Net, Corner Canyon had a season to remember, ending with a victory over Davis in the 6A championship.
In the season, King had a strong 3.8 gaa and a .728 save %.
Head coach of Corner Canyon Jeff King relied a lot on King this season to strengthen the defense and he delivered in more than one way.
“Rhett King was the cornerstone of our defense and led a unit that held opponents to fewer than four goals per game throughout the season. His fast reflexes and smart positioning in the goal stopped consistent scoring opportunities,” said coach King.
The leadership that King showed in goal often not only gave a spark defensively, but also in the offensive end.
“In addition to the fold, Rhett played a crucial role in obtaining possession, often caused transitions with important rescues and knew. He ended the season as our second leading ground collector, who underlines his crowds and all-round impact on the field,” coach King added.
“His leadership and intensity set the tone for our entire defensive unity. Although no official statistics, Rhett often led our clear, often to the attacking side to help us with the transition.”
5A player of the year
Braxton Horoba, Alta, Sr., Attack
While the Alta season ended a match rather than it hoped, there were still many positives to take the season away and perhaps no larger than Senior Braxton Horoba.
Horoba was an important gear in the Alta attack. In the season, Horoba set up 72 goals to join 47 assists.
“What distinguishes Braxton is his exceptional field vision. He has a unique opportunity to see plays develop before others do that, so that he made an invaluable value in every game. His versatility allowed him to adapt to every situation – whether it is physically or finesse,” said Alta Head Coach Brandon Horoba.
“His teaminess and creativity as a dodger made him extremely difficult to defend, and he often created scoring opportunities, not only for himself, but also for his teammates.”
Although mainly known for its goals and attacking representation, Horoba showed incredible toughness and focus on defense, causing 27 sales for the season.
“Braxton was always willing to take a hit or absorb a check to make a high -quality game. His toughness and dedication to the game were unparalleled. As a two -year -old leader at Alta, he led a good example every day with an incredible working ethics and strong leadership presence,” said coach Horoba.
4A player of the year
Rome Swanwick, Judge Memorial, Jr., attack
Judge Memorial was able to catch the 4A championship in a convincing way and to run Juan Diego 15-4 in the title game.
Much of the success of the team this season can be attributed to striking attacker Rome Swanwick.
Swanwick was a constant force at the top of the Judge Memorial Attack and led the team with 61 goals and 25 assists to count 86 points.
“Rome is one of the purest shooters in the state, if not the top. He raised his assistant count with 10 from last year against the top competition in and out of the state,” said Judge Memorial head coach Jeff Brzoska. “He is one of the most difficult riders on the attack side I have ever seen and team plan to stay away from the field.”
Swanwick was injured for a large part of the season with a nagging bone and Achilles injury, but to his honor, continued to play through it and never missed a match.
“He is a real gamer who just likes to play Lacrosse and this spring was named Teamcaptain. Rome received a Lacrosse Lacrosse All-American for the first time this year. I and the entire coaching staff could not be more proud of Rome for earning the 4A player of the year, he said a scoring machine,” said a bi-year. “
