Greenpeace joins Anti-Bezos protest with Venice Banner who complains about billionaire tax benefits

Rome (AP) – Greenpeace On Monday joined the mattering of protests in Venice against the upcoming wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.

A half dozen protesters unfolded a gigantic banner early in St. Mark’s Square Reading on Monday: “If you can rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more taxes.” Local police quickly folded it up and removed it.

The demonstration followed last week on other anti-want initiatives, including a banner that was draped from the San Giorgio Bell Tower, one of the famous Rialto bridge of the Lagoon City and posters plastered in the city that complained about the upcoming wedding and the effects of public by Venice.

The “No Space for Bezos” movement on words that also refer to the recent space flight of the bride has united a dozen Venetian organizations, including proponents of housing, campaigners of anti-cruises and university groups.

Activists claim that the wedding is an example of broader failures in municipal administration, in particular the prioritization of tourism above the needs of the inhabitants.

Greenpeace said it collaborated with the British group “Everyone hates Elon”, who has hit Teslas to protest against Elon Musk, for Monday’s banner. Greenpeace said it wanted to draw attention to the comparable low taxes that many billionaires pay and is said to aggravate the climate crisis with environmentally friendly non -durable lifestyle.

Italian and Venetian officials have strongly criticized the protests and welcomed the marital marriages of Bezos-Sanchez, which are planned for later this week.

During the weekend, while the protests continued to get the headlines in Italy, said a Venetian Environmental Research Association, Corila, that the Earth Fund of Bezos supported its work with an ‘important donation’.

Corila, who unites university scientists and the most important National Research Council of Italy in investigating the Venetian protection strategies, would not say how much Bezos donated, but noted that contacts started in April, well before the protests started.
