The GCA of the UK launches a probe in the alleged delays of Amazon in supplier payments
The British shopping code Adjudicator (GCA) has started a probe in Amazon after concerns about alleged potential violations of regulations that arrange the timely payment to suppliers.
The investigation stems from suspicions that Amazon has violated paragraph 5 of the code (no delay in payments) between 1 March 2022 and 20 June 2025.
It will in particular investigate the practices since January 1, 2024 to gain an extensive insight into the current Amazon procedures.
The investigation will assess the extent of any infringements, their impact on suppliers and the underlying causes.
The GCA will investigate the practices of Amazon with regard to receiving goods, payment processes, dealing with concern about suppliers on payment allowance and the use of settlements of OD content in its commercial negotiations.
The decision of the GCA to investigate follows earlier interactions with Amazon. Mark White, the referee, informed Amazon in 2024 that the decisive action should take to adhere to the code.
White stated: “Delays in payment can significantly harm suppliers. The alleged delays can expose Amazon suppliers to excessive risk and unexpected costs, which possible to influence their ability to invest and innovate.
“I decided to start this targeted investigation based on the range of evidence that I have seen from several sources. It will enable me to determine whether Amazon has broken paragraph 5 of the shopping code and the main cause of every infringement.”
The GCA states that, despite the subsequent efforts of Amazon, detailed evidence of suppliers requires targeted investigations into payment practices.
Reports have been received from other issues of shopping code at Amazon. The GCA continues to collaborate with Amazon to resolve these matters and remains prepared to start further investigation if necessary.
White has called on direct suppliers and stakeholders to contribute evidence and to share their experiences of delivery to Amazon, as part of the GCA’s proof process for the ongoing investigation, and says, “All answers will be completely confidential.”
In June 2025, Amazon announced plans to reduce his business staff while integrating generative AI technology into its business processes.
“GCA from the UK to investigate Amazon for alleged delays in supplier payments” was originally made and published by Retail Insight Network, a Global Data brand.
