Few teams related to the huge number of injuries to run back last year such as Oklahoma. Five players received at least 20 carry’s, in which nobody wore the ball more than 122 times last season.
It led OU 76th to be finished in FBS and 11th in the SEC in Hraast, and the Sooners struggled to a 6-7 record.
Coach Brent Venables made a splash in the transfer portal, according to Jaydn Ott of California-Berekely in the low season. A former selection of the first team All-Pac 12, OTT must offer stability to a position that needs it. And Venables and the new attacking coordinator Ben Arbuckle also have some depth behind him, with the top three of last season’s Sooners who all return.
A lot depends on the attacking line, but Oklahoma that has to decline in 2025 yield many superior figures than in 2024. Health in treatment, that is.
Here is a look at how the position stacks for Oklahoma on the way to autumn.

Quarterback
1. Jaydn Ott – Senior
If Jaydn Ott is the player he was for CAL in 2023, Oklahoma landed one of the best running in the country outside the transfer portal this season. But if the ankle injury that hinded him again during 2024, OTT may never get the chance to be that player. As a second year, he ran more than 1,300 meters and 12 touchdowns for the bears when they were still in the PAC-12. As a junior last year, he only ran 38.5 yards per game at less than 12 wears per match in his 10 games. National Pundits have aimed at bouncing back, and there was no word about the ankle that Ott bothered in the spring, which suggests a large year for a team that needs only an attacking bounce back.
2. Jovantae Barnes – Senior
Jovantae Barnes was Oklahoma’s primary running back in 2024, just as well as Oklahoma ran a primary ran back in 2024. Just when he found his way in the role, an ankle injury forced him to miss the last four games of the season. He finally ran 577 yards on 122 before he was lost. If his health persists, he would have to get enough Carry again in his last year, although perhaps not as much as last year.
3. Xavier Robinson – Second Years
In a perfect world, the Sooners would have held the RedShirt season of Xavier Robinson last year. But injuries forced the hand of the Sooners and the inhabitant of Oklahoma only picked up his first Carry against Maine on 2 November. His best match met Alabama when he ran 107 Yards and two touchdowns. Although he ended with only 41 yards on 16 in the last two of Ou, Robinson showed that he has what is needed to be a function back in the sec.
4. Taylor Tatum – Second Years
Taylor Tatum was one of the few Oklahoma who ran back last year who had a full season of health. He showed the potential to make big games, but also had trouble protecting football. He had a double digit in just one game. But with 296 yards and three touchdowns as a first -year student, Tatum showed that he is able to be an effective part of the Oklahoma Sooners attack.
5. Tory Blaylock – First -year
It is easy to introduce a world in which Tory Blaylock will be in 2025 what Robinson was last year. Oklahoma can take his time to develop the four -star recruitment from Texas with the talent and depth for him, but with his speed and explosiveness it is possible to see Snaps as a real first -year student.
6. Gabe Sawchuk – Redshirt Freshman
Gavin Sawchuk may have left Ou before his career was ready, but it doesn’t seem to have been a resentment because the little brother Gabe Sawchuk held. He sustained last year and is not in the mix much this season. However, given his pedigree, when injuries run unbridled again through the current back room, Sawchuk was able to wear here or there. More likely he will be a blessing for the Scout team.
7. Andy Bass – Redshirt Freshman
Andy Bass, the former Oklahoma Gatorade player of the year, was on campus his first year to grow and change from a State Championship-winning Quarterback in Heritage Hall in a university that runs back. Bass suffered a second knee injury in the preparation of Oklahoma on the bowled forces -which reduces the chance that he will see considerable snaps this year. But he was a poty for a reason, so it would not be shocking that he eventually get a chance.
Note: players are mentioned in what we think is probably the order of playing time, not necessarily assets in the coming years
